Aldi Vegetables Sold In Illinois Raised To Class-1 Recall Status
My wife said this to me the other day: "Is it my imagination, or are we getting food recall warnings and notices just about every day lately, and don't most of them have something to do with listeria?"
She's not wrong.
From deli meat to vegetables, over the last few months we've been hit with a bunch of product recalls due to the potential for contamination, and listeria contamination has been the common denominator for many of these FDA (Food and Drug Administration) issued recall notices.
We've seen a recall of over seven million pounds of Boar's Head deli meat that was produced at one single facility, then came the vegetable recall (for the same reason) that started out with Walmart and Aldi before including Kroger stores.
Now, the vegetable recall is being classified as a Class-1 recall.
The Three Classes Of Food Product Recalls Are Class-1, Class-2, And Class-3--And Class-1 Is The Most Serious Of Them All
According to the FDA's website, a Class-1 recall is "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."
Other states outside Illinois that have been affected by the listeria recall are:
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- Virginia
- West Virginia
Listeria is not something you want to deal with. If you're lucky enough to suffer from mild symptoms, you're looking at fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If it gets more severe, you'll experience things like headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
It's much worse for the very young, the elderly, those who are immune-compromised, and pregnant women.
Here Are The Produce Items You Should Be Looking For---But Definitely Not Consuming, According To The FDA Recall
This started when RS Hanline and Company, Inc., recalled jalapeno, green bean, and green pepper products due to a possible Listeria contamination last month.
Three of the products came from Freshire Farms, which is a trademark of Aldi: jalapenos packaged in plastic bags at eight ounces, 18 bags per case; green beans packaged in plastic bags at one pound, 14 bags per case; and green peppers packaged in plastic bags containing three peppers, 16 bags per case.
