Just got a note from our friends at The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (RACVB), and they are extremely excited to announce Saturday Night Fights.

According to their press release:

Saturday Night Fights, featuring 10 to 12 fights, will take place October 18, at The Lombardi Club, 209 Olive Street, in Rockford. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first fight at 7 p.m.

The event will feature males and females competing in lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight classes. Local boxers include Alejandra Mercado (21), Kalen Sumler (27), and United States National Junior Golden Gloves and Ringside World champions, Angel Martinez and Huliano Lugo. United States Marine Corps heavyweight, Curtis Iverson will also be in attendance.

Jimmy Goodman, of Patriots Gateway Boxing Club, said this event will add to the excitement from 2013's great showcase of talent.

“With the fight card I have put together for October, I know it will be even more spectacular than last year. I am super excited to showcase Rockford’s two-time national champion and world champion, Angel Martinez, here in his hometown. It’s a perfect opportunity for the public to see the best in boxing.”

Admission to the event is $20, and there are ringside sponsorship tables available for $250 (seats 8).

But wait, there's more:

Coming up on December 13-14, the Illinois State Silver Gloves Tournament will be held at the Patriots Gateway Boxing Club featuring more than 125 boxers from around the state. Boys and Girls ages 8-15 will compete during the weekend showcase. The fights begin at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 12 p.m. on Dec. 14. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for 12 and under.
