What's Up, Doc? is a weekly health segment on WROK sponsored by MercyHealth. Each week they highlight a different doctor/healthcare professional to come on our show and talk to us about their specialty. It has turned into one of our favorite segments. All of our doctors have exhibited a "human" side that people don't always get to see with their physicians. We encourage you to check out some of our past episodes here. We've done about 30 of these segments highlighting everything from Lyme disease to hernia repair to finding a health care plan and everything else in between. We've learned a lot and hope you can too.

Our guest this week was Dr. Rebekah Collins-Conkright. She works at the internal residency clinic at MercyHealth here in Rockford. Dr. Collins has a fascinating history. Her medical journey took her from Michigan to Portland, to the Caribbean, to England, to right here in Rockford. We're glad she landed here in town because, like many other doctors on our show, Dr. Collins has a wonderful bedside manner and would obviously be easy to talk to in a medical setting.

We started the conversation by clearing something up, for me at least, and that's, what exactly IS internal medicine. It turns out that it is as simple as it sounds. Internal medicine deals with basically anything that happens inside of you. Organ health, GI track health, mental health, neurological diseases, and so forth.

Dr. Collins clears up when you should see an internal medicine specialist and what questions you should ask when seeing them. Like the previous episodes of What's Up, Doc? I definitely left the interview knowing a lot more than I did going in.

We thank Dr. Collins for her time and we look forward to our next guest on What's Up, Doc?

A new episode airs every Thursday morning at 8:35 on 1440 WROK.
