What's Up, Doc? is a weekly health segment on WROK sponsored by MercyHealth. Each week they highlight a different doctor/healthcare professional to come on our show and talk to us about their specialty. It has turned into one of our favorite segments. All of our doctors have exhibited a "human" side that people don't always get to see with their physicians. We encourage you to check out some of our past episodes here. We've done about 30 of these segments highlighting everything from Lyme disease to hernia repair to finding a health care plan and everything else in between. We've learned a lot and hope you can too.

One of the best parts of doing these interviews is getting to meet some incredible doctors without having to go through difficult medical procedures that most have to go through to be introduced to them. That definitely applies to this week's guest, Dr. Jerry Hall.

Dr. Hall was one of our favorite all-time guests during our two years of doing What's Up, Doc? His demeanor is absolutely perfect for a doctor in the high pressure world of heart surgery. Dr. Hall has being doing this for decades now and his easy expertise would put anyone at ease under his care.

Some of the topics discussed this week were:

  • What is cardiothoracic surgery?
  • What types of patients do you treat?
  • Discussions with family and patients about upcoming surgeries.
  • Different types ot cardiothoracic surgeries
  • How to set up regular heart checkups

By far the most interesting portion of the interview is talking with Dr. Hall about how he handles talking with patients and family about upcoming surgeries. The team concept is definitely not lost on Dr. Hall and his associates at Mercyhealth.

We thank Dr. Hall for his time and look forward to our next guest on What's Up Doc?

A new What's Up, Doc? airs every other Thursday morning at 8:35 on 1440 WROK.
