As the Totally Retro Prom approaches, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at what Chicago sports teams were up to in the 1980s (and the Rockford Lightning too).

By the way, yes, the Retro Prom is Friday and tickets are still available. We‘ll have complimentary hors d‘oeuvres, a silent auction, the coronation of the Totally Retro Prom King and Queen and a photo booth to capture rad photos of your night.

My beloved White Sox were busy early in the decade winning a Western Division championship in 1983. Here's the video of the clincher against the Mariners:

Meanwhile the Cubs were, largely, the Cubs. I tried to find a good video clip of Leon Durham botching the grounder against the Padres in the '84 playoffs, but I guess I'll have to settle for this Channel 9 promo:

The Bears were busy winning a Super Bowl in 1985/86. I was so happy to find this video of "Play It Again, Bears!" from just before the Super Bowl XX win. Janet Davies walks us through the entire season set to music. I watched this over and over and over and over and over again. Good memories:

The Bulls were slowly coming together behind a kid named Michael Jordan. Here's a recap of the team's classic 1986 playoff series against the Celtics:

Not a lot on the Blackhawks. But found this piece from 1985 on the team's still classic rivalry with the Detroit Red Wings:

And last, but not least, the Rockford Lightning of the CBA were active right here in the Forest City:
