Two people are dead and a third suffered injuries in an overnight shed fire just south of downtown Rockford.

Officials say the roof had collapsed on a small brick structure by the time crews arrived on scene near the corner of Cedar and Winnebago. One male burn victim was able to get out on his own. He was transported to the hospital for treatment. After extinguishing the blaze firefighters found two victims inside the building. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said they heard a noise and when they investigated they found the building on fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
