Tuesday is a long way from Friday, especially if Friday happens to be your pay day. However, since most of us have gotten into the habit of eating every single day, you'd probably like to eat someplace where things are a bit less expensive, but still really good.

Well, you're in luck. There are lots of places in the Rockford area that serve outstanding food at a great price. Here are the top 5 local places that fit that description, along with 2 reviews each, according to Trip Advisor:

Johnny Pamcakes

I've visited both locations and got the same great food and service. The place is popular so be prepared to wait a bit. The skillets and three-egg fluffy omelettes are fantastic. The hash browns are the best I've had anywhere. A trip to Rockford without a stop for Pamcakes would be incomplete!

Johnny Pamcakes has two locations, one on W. State St.and one on Harrison Ave. These folks know how to do breakfast no matter what your looking for. My wife and I will keep returning here for as long as we live in the area. The food is over the top good and the service is out standing. We like going to the location on Harrison Ave because it's in the Kegel's Harley Davidson Dealership which has a 50's style diner in the dealership where the restaurant is located. Get there early or you may have to wait for a table, or sit at the counter if you don't need a table. Well worth the wait, believe me.

15th and Chris

Hands down best burgers in town and all burger lovers who have an opportunity to, should check out what this place has to offer.

Locally owned and delicious food. Always a line during lunch time but so worth the wait. Maybe the best fries I've ever had.

Tom and Jerry's

Restaurant is not your usual fast food stop as everything is made to order. Love their hot dogs and polish. But they offer a wide selection on the menu. Prices are quite reasonable. Great place to get office takeout. And they deliver!

Tom and Jerry's has a bit of everything, from burgers to pizza. The flavors were good and the food "hit the spot". A police officer friend told us the gyros are the best. Generous helping of meat and friendly service.

Command Post Restaurant

The Command Post Restaurant is a small restaurant. Went there on a Saturday morning for breakfast and it more than expected. The breakfast was good, but the best part is all of the military history in the building. For a $10 donation, there are a lot of pictures from various eras showing history of how Rockford helped during various US conflicts. There is a big banner with signatures of returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq and it great seeing it. Worth going to and seeing it all and for respect of the military.

Good breakfast, just don't be in a hurry and prepare for a history lesson. The owners are so knowledgable about Camp Grant and happily share what they know. Then walk around the museum and learn a little of the history of the area.

Hacienda San Jose

Very nice atmosphere, attentive service, and very good food! A nice break from the standard Mexican dining at the larger local restaurants with genuine "south of the border" appeal.

Nancy is so nice and always gives great service. This is our favorite Mexican place to eat. Everything is so good. Burrito dinner and carne Assada con quest are our go to meals. the carrots onion in vinegar are one of the best things to put in your mouth. Yum.
