After watching the disaster in Houston unfold over the last week, I'm really trying to avoid complaining about the little annoyances of my life--but I'm willing to make an exception when it comes to gas prices. We have something to complain about.

Hooray, I found gas under $2.00 a gallon!

Here in Illinois, we'll take good news wherever and whenever we can get it. So, with that in mind, those of us who are planning on hitting the road this summer can look forward to lower gas prices.

If you're like me, and I know I am--you've never really considered what day of the week it is while stopping to fill up with gas. I mean, call me old school, but I generally fill up when it appears that my tank is low and in need of a refuel. Now I find out that's been costing me money.

Ah, those magical words "Summer-Blend" are being spoken once again, and you know what that means: gas prices are heading upward once again.

It's not much, but every little bit helps. After rising at the beginning of January, pump prices are back on the decline in Illinois and northern Indiana heading into February. We're looking at lower prices than last month, but we're still up from this time last year.

Maybe you didn't think much about gas prices in November, as they were on average about 11 cents cheaper per gallon than in October. However, due to some moves made by OPEC, you can expect to start noticing this month, and even more as we head into the new year.

If you're planning on doing some driving over Labor Day weekend, it's kind of a good news/bad news scenario. Prices are a little up from a month ago, but they're considerably lower than they were last year at this time.

Time to fill up! Rockford gas prices have officially dipped under $2 a gallon. It is a summer miracle, and we should all absolutely take advantage of it.

Prices at the pump have been falling for some time in the Rockford area, with a gallon of regular going for about $1.90 per gallon these days. The statewide average sits at $1.96 right now, according to GasBuddy.com. But how far could those prices fall...
