Today history was made with the birth of Maile Pearl Bowlsbey. The second daughter of Illinois U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth but the first while in office.

Is it just me or is this really hard to believe?

With more and more women being elected into Congress, this is likely to happen more often, and that's a good thing in my opinion. When someone votes, usually, they try and vote for someone that represents them. Now mothers, especially ones with paternity leave in their future, have someone they can look up to.

According to WREX, "Her office says her experience as a working mother gives her an important understanding in Congress."

"Parenthood isn't just a women's issue, it's an economic issue and one that affects all parents — men and women alike." She continued, "As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a senator can be, I'm hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere."

According to WREX, "Maile Pearl is named after Duckworth's husband's aunt, who was an Army officer and served during WWII as a nurse."
