WHAT:  “Used Art” Benefit Sale

WHERE: JustGoods Gallery, 201 Seventh Street

WHEN: May 18 - 30Mondays through Saturdays, 10 – 6

Rockford Urban Ministries hosts its ninth annual “Used Art Sale” in the JustGoods fair trade store Gallery, 201 Seventh Street, Rockford. This year the sale highlights Rockford’s history, and includes rare items from the City’s past.

Items from Rockford’s political and business past, as well as art donated to RUM is on sale. The “used art” gallery is open during JustGoods fair trade store hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 – 6.

Art is donated by local artists and craftspeople as well as by supporters of Rockford Urban Ministries. Affordable prices abound for original oils, watercolors and “found objects” for inventive artists, as well as small postcards, and a large selection of art books for $3 each.

The art is priced to sell, and JustGoods Gallery is free and open to the public. JustGoods is a non-profit market, providing lovely gifts that are certified to have been produced in a “fair” way (i.e., no child labor, the producer is paid a living wage, not environmentally damaging). Fair trade began as a way of promoting mission and peace programs, cooperatives and justice issues in third world countries.

All proceeds from the Used Art Sale benefit Rockford Urban Ministries and its partner projects. RUM’s latest project is hosting a summer work camp for large groups of volunteers to work on indigent peoples’ homes.

Donations are still being accepted for the sale. Anything that could be considered art is welcome, donations may be dropped off at the gallery at 201 Seventh Street during store hours, Monday through Saturday, 10 – 6. Or call Stanley Campbell at 815-964-7111 for pick up or special arrangements.
