In other "not surprised by this place closing" news, Rockford Public Library dropped a bombshell of an announcement, some of which is not actually bad. But, yes, there were a few disappointing notes.

We already know a new main branch of Rockford Public Library will be completed and open within the next few years. WIFR news confirmed RPL will sell the space currently housing the temporary main branch but, in the meantime, could be permanently shutting two of their other branches - 11th Street and Rockton Avenue. RPL's board of trustees will also consider reducing staff, either full-time or part-time. Reducing hours of operation will also be on the table.

On the flip side of this, Rockford residents could see a few traveling libraries complete with the internet.

They will travel to all areas of the city and will change locations based on need. - WIFR

Needless to say, these would be two major changes for Rockford but do not necessarily have a negative impact on the community. As for the employees whose jobs are at risk, some could be moved to other branches.

It seems like 2020 has been full of losing bars, restaurants, stores, businesses, and more. I'm sure we're not all alone in being more than ready to be done with these days of "what else can go wrong this year?" mentality.
