The announcement of a temporary closure is due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19.

In spite of the Illinois Secretary of State Office's best efforts at trying to keep going during the pandemic, COVID-19 has once again provoked a closure (albeit temporary) to an important service.

The Secretary of State's office is planning on keeping the East State Rockford location closed through Tuesday, October 6th. The Roscoe location is being described as closed until further notice. Meanwhile, employees of those locations will be quarantining for the next two weeks, and the facilities themselves will be cleaned and sanitized following CDC protocols.

As I mentioned before, credit should be given to Secretary of State Jesse White for extending expiration dates to February 1st, 2021 for driver’s licenses and state ID cards. License plate stickers remain extended until November 1st, 2020, so there's no need to worry that you're looking at getting a healthy fine for expired licenses, plates, or stickers.

This temporary closure only affects the East State Street and Roscoe facilities. You can still visit Rockford CDL, 4734 Baxter Road; Rockford Express, 3214 Auburn Street, and the Belvidere Secretary of State Facility at 425 Southtowne Drive.

For those who plan on visiting a drivers license facility outside the Rockford area, the Illinois Secretary of State's website, CyberDriveIllinois.com has details on the other facilities in the state that also may be closed.
