President Obama is coming to Illinois today (Wednesday) to try to help the governor.

The president is due to arrive today, stay overnight, and then do a campaign event for the governor on Thursday in Chicago, and then give a speech on the economy at Northwestern University in Evanston.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says this should help. “I welcome the president.  He’s my former colleague, my friend, and anytime he can come home, particularly to encourage people to vote, I encourage him to do it.  And I hope the first lady comes too,” he said.

Word is she will, next week, and former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, an Illinois native, might.  They would do a combination of fund raisers and rallies with the voting public.

Illinois Republican Chairman Tim Schneider says good luck with the fund-raising.  “No amount of money can buy our way out of what we’ve seen for the last six years under Pat Quinn,” he said.

Republican Bruce Rauner has had the governor of New Jersey visit four times to raise money.
