Midway Village Cancels World War II Days

One of the country's largest WWII reenactment events has become yet another casualty of this COVID-19 mess.

Rockford's Midway Village and Museum Center has made the announcement that out of concern for public health and safety, they've pulled the plug on this year's event that had been scheduled for the weekend of September 19th.

If things were more normal this year, WWII Days at Midway Village would feature more than 1,000 reenactors, about 70 WWII vehicles, and about 9,000 spectators over the two days.

One of my favorite memories is taking my late father, a WWII veteran, to WWII Days in past years. The respect shown to him and other veterans in attendance by the reenactors was always a beautiful thing to see. It always brought me a smile to see the pride the reenactors showed when one of the vets would compliment them on their attention to detail.

Midway Village and Museum Center says they haven't given up on the idea of doing WWII Days in 2020, and are exploring ways to do it virtually.
