Man Charged in Deaths of 2 Teens in Stolen Car
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A man who police allege was driving a stolen vehicle has been charged in connection with the death of two teenage passengers who were killed when the vehicle crashed.
Michael A. Rankins Jr. is being held without bond in the Winnebago County Jail on two counts of aggravated driving under the influence in the deaths of 17-year-old Devonte Boose and 18-year-old Kewan Nappier. The 21-year-old Rankins is also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
Authorities say Rankins was driving a stolen car that crashed early on the morning of Aug. 4 in Rockford. The vehicle had been stolen hours earlier. In addition to the fatalities, Rankins and two other passengers in the vehicle were injured in the crash.
It wasn't immediately known if Rankins has retained legal representation.
