LaHood Wins Special Election To Replace Schock In Congress

State Senator Darin LaHood will now become the 18th District Congressman after defeating Quincy teacher Rob Mellon in yesterday's special election.
Turnout in some parts of the 18th District was described as low, but lower in some parts of the district than others. LaHood says he's concerned about that, but still glad he won.
"You always want more people to get out and vote," says LaHood (R)-Dunlap. "But, remember the dynamics. It's a special election. The primary was on July seventh. The second one was on a Thursday. It's a unique time to have an election. This was the only thing on the ballot. It wasn't from a lack of work. We went out there and hustled all over this district."
LaHood says he doesn't have an opinion on who should replace him in the Illinois Senate.
"Obviously, there's a process that's going to play out there," says LaHood. "I know there's a number of good candidates that are going to be interested in that. I'm focused on getting my office and up and running to have the best operation possible."
LaHood takes office next Thursday. He says just like he's been able to navigate the waters in Springfield, he hopes to be able to do the same in Washington.
