ROCKFORD - Ken Dubose, who has coached the Jefferson J-Hawks football team for the past two seasons, announced today on his Facebook page that he will not be coaching the team this season.

It's a surprising development because Dubose coached the J-Hawks through summer camps and 7-on-7 competitions and practice is scheduled to begin next week.

Jefferson had suffered through back-to-back 0-9 seasons before Dubose took over in 2015. The J-Hawks were 0-9 again in Dubose's first season but made a major leap to 4-5 in 2016. Jefferson returns James Dunner at quarterback, who set numerous passing records last season.

There was no word tonight as to who will coach Jefferson this season. Jefferson opens with Machesney Park Harlem on August 25.
