The Store Where Everything is Always Free

You know, I’ve often thought about how amazing it would be to be so rich that I didn’t have to filter my online shopping from low to high price. Just imagine walking into a store and picking out whatever you want without a second thought because everything is free! That’s actually the reality at a thrift store in Peoria, Illinois, called Enough Stuff. I stumbled upon a TikTok from Savannah Kutkat, the founder and COO of the Enough Stuff Club, and it really caught my attention.

How Does the Enough Stuff Club Work?

In the video, Savannah explains how the store works: all the donated goods are free for consumers! Of course, if you can pay, that’s welcome too. They also accept monetary donations and have a membership club where anyone donating $10 or more a month gets a locally made art, craft, or DIY project sent to them for free!

How Did The Enough Stuff Club Start?

According to their website, Savannah made her dream a reality in 2020, which was quite a feat given everything that happened that year. She mentioned needing one place in the world that made sense—a space that doesn’t assign a monetary value to items but instead focuses on reusing things that are still useful. It’s staggering to think that, as reported by epa.gov, Americans toss out about 4.9 pounds of trash per person every day. The U.S. is responsible for 12% of the world’s municipal solid waste, even though we only make up 4% of the global population. We’ve gotten so used to buying new instead of fixing what we have, and we refresh our homes and wardrobes regularly. Savannah’s idea is that when someone no longer needs something, they can pass it on - or gift it - and Enough Stuff helps facilitate that.

Enough Stuff's Finances

As a non-profit, Enough Stuff is all about transparency; they post their finances online every month. They operate on a budget of around $2,000 a month, and Savvy shared that their donations miraculously match their expenses, which has kept them going for the past four years.

And guess what? The project has been so successful that the board is looking to expand! Right now, the store is just 900 square feet, which doesn’t leave much room for donations or daily operations. They’re hoping to move to a larger space, and they also plan to add a year-round heating and cooling area for unhoused guests to rest and socialize, a public bathroom for essential hygiene, and an onsite laundry service to keep donations clean and help those in need.

Peoria is quite a drive—about four and a half hours from Southern Indiana! It’s a shame I can’t pop over to Enough Stuff anytime soon, but I really love the concept. It would be amazing to see something like that expand to our area. It could make such a positive impact!

If you'd like to help Savvy expand Enough Stuff Club, consider donating today. We also have some great thrift stores in the area that benefit great non-profits like World Wide Mission Store in Evansville, Mother Teresa Treasures in Newburgh, St. Vincent de Paul, Evansville Rescue Mission Thrift Store, Happy Tails at VHS, and Gifted Thrift in Owensboro.
