Varsity Football Season Cancelled By High School In Illinois
I love football. It's by far my favorite sport. I played from 5th grade and all the way through high school. Those are some of my greatest memories from growing up. I even met some of my best friends on the team. I couldn't imagine not having the game in my life, especially in high school. We weren't good, but at the time it didn't matter because we were still having fun.

According to Brobible...
Eisenhower High School in Illinois has decided to cancel its 2026 high school football season with just 11 days until its first game. The Panthers will not be able to field a varsity team due to a lack of players.

I feel really bad for the senior athletes at Eisenhower High School in Decatur. They won't get to enjoy their last year of football because the school just cancelled their varsity season. The reason was a lack of players. They couldn't get enough students to come out for the team. That has to just be heartbreaking for those players and fans.

The season is about to start, so this causes a big issue for the other schools on their schedule. Yes, they will get a win for the forfeit, but they're losing out on a game. For the seniors, each game is important because there are so few. We didn't have a lot of players back in my day, but at least we had enough to play games. It's sad because I see many programs across the state, including here in Rockford, have problems recruiting students to play sports.
