Open Letter to Rockford Girl Sitting By Me at the Taylor Swift Tribute Show
I truly believe the universe works in magical ways, and we're meant to cross paths with certain people in our lifetime for a reason. This is one of those moments.
I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan; I don't listen to her music on repeat and would probably never drop tons of money just to see her on tour. But I ended up attending a Taylor Swift Tribute Show in Rockford, Illinois by myself and had the time of my life! Something was telling me I needed to be at that show.

Halfway into the night, I looked to my left and in my row was a beautiful little girl with an adorable pixie cut, in a sparkly blue ball gown, a bow in her hair, and she was curled up in her seat enjoying the show with her mom.

I had one friendship bracelet that said "Enchanted" with blue butterfly beads on it—the color matched perfectly with the little girl's whole outfit. Feeling compelled to give the little girl the bracelet, I did it. I told her how beautiful her pixie cut was, and she had the perfect face shape for it. She perked up instantly!
After the show, her mom came up & thanked me for making her daughter’s night better because she was feeling “funky” about how it’s been growing out after all the chemo she’s been through. She’s now in remission! *cue the tears*
Out of all the little girls in the crowd, I'm so happy my world collided with hers.
Open Letter to Rockford Girl Next to Me at the Taylor Swift Tribute Show
To the little girl at the Taylor Swift Tribute Show,
When every girl around you has long hair and you have really short hair, you feel out of place. You just want to fit in. Sometimes wishing you'd wake up and your hair magically grew 10 inches overnight. I get it!
I was you. I still am you. Having a pixie cut from age 15 to 26, there have been so many times I felt incredibly insecure about how I looked because every girl my age had long hair, but then I realize I look so beautiful just like you.
It's a process, but if you trust it, you'll learn to love the way you look and feel confident again. It takes time. Don't let anyone bring you down, tell you short hair is only for boys, or make you feel worthless. You are a warrior. You are strong. You are perfect just the way you are.
I'm so glad we crossed paths. Congratulations on kicking cancer's ass.
