As a parent, I'd rank this among my greatest fears. Having a child go off to college only to become a victim of a violent crime is a terrible reality for many and it's terrifying to know that 3 of the top 10 most dangerous college campuses also happen to be next door neighbors to Wisconsin.

Degree Choices ranked the 27 most dangerous college campuses in America. Fortunately, the University of Wisconsin did not end up on this list, but three very nearby universities did.

This ranking was done very simply by tracking the number of violent crimes committed on each campus over a three year period from 2019 through 2021.

#10 University of Minnesota - Twin Cities - 114 violent crimes

#5 University of Iowa - 215 violent crimes

#1 University of Michigan - Ann Arbor - 1,468 violent crimes

Since these are neighboring universities, it's not surprising that many Wisconsin families have kids that attend these schools as College Factual shows. The allegations of sexual misconduct at the University of Michigan are troubling and that's an understatement.

Deciding on a place of higher learning for a Wisconsin family is one of the most important decisions they'll ever make. To have to factor in possible violence against their children is terrifying. That's one reason why data like this is necessary to help each make the wisest choice possible.
