A ranking was released of the Best Cities for Recreation in the US this year, and St. Louis is shockingly ranked ahead of Chicago, and it really comes down to one major category. Here are the details...

The experts at WalletHub released a list called the Best & Worst Cities for Recreation 2024, and St. Louis ranks 8th overall on their list which is 3 spots ahead of Chicago which ranks 11th on the list. What is wild about these rankings is that WalletHub ranks Chicago higher than St. Louis in the Entertainment & Recreational Facilities category Chicago is 5th, St. Louis is 15th. Chicago ranks 5th in the Quality of Parks category compared to St. Louis ranking 15th, and Chicago even ranks better in the weather category than St. Louis....

So how is St. Louis ranked 8th on this list and Chicago 11th... COST. The Cost category kills Chicago in this ranking. Chicago ranks 77th in the cost of doing recreational activities whereas St. Louis ranks 9th in the Cost category. The top 5 cities for Recreational Activities in the US this year? The list says Las Vegas #1, followed by Orlando, Tampa, Cincinnati, and Honolulu. Los Angeles is 12th on the list, and New York City is 21st on the list, both of them like Chicago, are negatively impacted by the Cost category. For Missourians, Kansas City ranks 30th on the list, and the list only considered the top 100 most populated cities in the US so Branson and other towns weren't considered.
