See a Short Illinois Hike that Takes You Thru Massive Rock Walls
Normally, the more beautiful the hike the more difficult it is to do. This Illinois hike is the exception. It's a short hike that just about anyone can do, but it takes you through scenic and massive rock canyon walls.
The Rim Rock National Recreation Trail in the Shawnee National Forest is one of the hidden gems that's tucked away in the southern part of Illinois. The upper trail is less than a mile, but the views are amazing.
The official Rim Rock Trail website states this was created back in 1980 because of its "its exceptional scenic beauty and historic values". No kidding. Breathtaking is a great description of what you'll experience if you adventure there and the fact that it's so accessible and easy to do is just icing on the cake.
If this seems like something you'd like to experience, Google Maps shows its only about 4 1/2 hours from the Quincy area. If you have ever day-tripped to Evansville, Indiana, you've likely driven right past this amazing Illinois hike. It's practically in Evansville's backyard.
