More than 1 in 5 black and Hispanic women in Illinois lost their jobs during the first month of the statewide stay-at-home order.

New research from the nonpartisan Illinois Policy Institute shows that women and minorities have been disproportionately hurt by job losses in Illinois since the start of the pandemic, with Black and Hispanic women suffering the most, with more than one out of every five losing her job in April alone.

We asked the author of the research piece, Illinois Policy's Chief Economist, Orphe Divounguy, to join us Tuesday morning to explain how and why this has happened, and what Illinois needs to do to straighten out what could be a years-long mess:
