Illinois’ ‘Perfect Summer Road Trip’ Revealed
Many of us have zero plans for summer 2020.
You don't have to look too far for the reason why.
Since many of us have decided to stay home in the past few months there has been a resurgence of simpler things.
Like hanging out in the backyard with the family, checking out a drive-in movie, or going on a small one-day road trip.
For me, I've done all of the above so far this summer, besides the drive-in movie, I know I'll get to it though.
I do wish that I would make some more time for one more small road trip south of us, to Matthiessen State Park in Utica.
While most road trips include the incredibly busy, especially right now, Starved Rock State Park, most people don't consider a trip to Matthiessen. If you're headed there from Rockford, you'll literally drive right past it.
My family went to Starved Rock and attempted to avoid large crowds of people the entire we were there. It was gorgeous and beautiful and well worth the drive, but I wish we would've waited and eventually made our way to Matthiessen.
Just one look at the massive sunflowers and all of the Instagram-worthy moments would be worth the trip itself, or in my case, another trip to Utica.
Mediafeed feels the same way about Matthiessen State Park calling it Illinois' "Perfect Summer Road Trip."
MSN:
Waterfalls and streams are the hallmarks of this heavily forested park in LaSalle County, which makes it ideal for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The scenic area and open trails are great for day trips, though there are equestrian campgrounds available for horseback riders.
