Illinois Offering Prepaid Gas Cards To Eligible Residents In Only One Town
Wouldn't it be nice to not pay for gas? With or without the soaring fuel prices, I want my gas to be FREE all the time!!!
For Chicago, they're getting a new financial relief program called 'Chicago Moves' that'll allow eligible candidates to receive FREE gas and public transit prepaid cards. Mayor Lori Lightfoot made the announcement to the city to provide at least SOME assistance for residents struggling.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?
There's a criteria you have to meet to be eligible to apply!
- Be residents of Chicago
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a current & valid City sticker with correct mailing info for their vehicle
- Have a household income at/below 140% of the Area Median Income for Chicago
Not everybody will be picked who is eligible, there's a lottery system the city will go through to determine the residents who will receive each wave of prepaid cards.
How many gas cards will be distributed? Each gas card will be worth $150 for as many as 50,000 drivers and $50 Ventra cards for some 100,000 public transit riders. That's $7.5M toward gas cards and $5M toward Ventra cards! Wow.
For the Ventra public transit cards lottery, you need to be a resident of Chicago and have a household income at or below 140% of the Area Median Income for Chicago.
Where do you sign up? Well, on April 27th you'll be able to apply... somewhere online! The city of Chicago hasn't posted where you can sign up yet, but keep on the look out. You might just be one of the first lucky residents to take advantage of the 'Chicago Moves' financial relief program.
