This whole thing got started about a week ago when it was announced that multiple types of produce, sold in Illinois and 12 other states between July 5th and July 12th at Walmart and Aldi supermarkets, were being recalled because of worries they had been contaminated with listeria.

Now that recall warning has expanded to include more types of produce and another supermarket chain, Kroger, that has 1,240 stores across the country, including 31 locations throughout Illinois.

Other states outside Illinois that have been affected by the listeria recall are:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

Recalls Can Be A Huge Pain For Both Stores And Customers, But Listeria Is Really Something You Want To Avoid

Symptoms of listeria infection for most people can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, along with neck stiffness.

It's when you factor in senior citizens, children, people with weakened immune systems, and especially pregnant women that things can get pretty scary. As FoodSafetyNews.com points out, "Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, their infections can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth."

Here's the thing. If you've eaten any of the recalled products you should make sure you keep an eye out for symptoms for the next couple of months because it can take up to two months for the symptoms of listeriosis to present themselves.
