Another day, another product recall. This time, it's for an indulgent pasta topping.

If it feels like there’s been a food recall making headlines every other day lately, you’re not imagining things. The latest product to land in the FDA’s crosshairs is something many pasta lovers know all too well.

Rich, creamy Alfredo sauce.

Unfortunately, your doctor’s warnings about overindulging may be taking a back seat to a much more urgent concern: possible salmonella contamination.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated a recall of Alfredo sauce made by The Coffee Connexion Co. to a Class I recall, the agency’s highest risk level. That designation means "there is a reasonable probability that consuming the product could cause serious health consequences or even death." The issue stems from a dry milk powder ingredient used in the sauce that was previously recalled because of potential salmonella contamination.

And Yes, Alfredo Sauce Was Invented By, And Named After, A Guy Named Alfredo

Alfredo sauce's origins trace back to early 20th-century Rome, where restaurateur Alfredo di Lelio created a simple dish of pasta tossed with butter and Parmesan cheese. The cream-heavy version Americans know today came later, evolving into the rich white sauce that now tops everything from fettuccine to chicken and seafood dishes.

This time, the only thing Illinois consumers should be tossing is any of this recalled Alfredo sauce they may have purchased.
