On the WROK Morning Show a couple of weeks ago, after reading about some competitive eater downing several pounds of bacon to win a contest, Joe Dredge asked me when I thought this whole "Life is Bacon-Bacon is Life" craze and obsession that we have in this country is going to finally cool off. Short answer: I don't see it happening anytime soon.

It only takes a few minutes spent watching the Food Network before you encounter someone who is just over-the-moon in love with any and everything related to bacon.

Here are just a few bacon-centric dishes I've seen pitched and/or cooked on Food TV recently:

  • Bacon Brownies
  • Maple Buttercream Cupcakes with Bacon Sprinkles
  • Woven Bacon Taco Shells
  • Bacon-Wrapped Sushi
  • Apple Pie Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich
  • Bacon Jam
  • Chocolate-Dipped Bacon Candy With Sea Salt
  • Bacon Rice Crispy Treats

America is bacon obsessed, bacon addicted, bacon craving, and just plain bacon crazy. And, if you find yourself as deeply in love with bacon as the rest of the country, you can feel better knowing that Bacon nirvana is only as far away as Lombard:

The place looks great. Lots of cool people and outstanding food. But, we're still left with the question of whether or not "bacon really makes everything better:"
