The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) says several utilities have agreed to keep residential customers connected for another month.

With so many Illinoisans out of work and facing huge difficulties in making ends meet, having your utilities shut off for lack of payment has been put on the back-burner until September, according to a news release from the ICC.

Some utilities have extended that moratorium to their business customers, and will continue to waive late fees, too.

Some of the utilities that have agreed to extend the cancellation moratorium include:

  • Ameren Illinois
  • Aqua Illinois
  • Consumer Gas
  • ComEd
  • Illinois American Water
  • Liberty
  • Nicor
  • Peoples Gas
  • North Shore Gas
  • Utility Services of Illinois

It's more than tough enough for Illinoisans as things are. Having to worry that your utilities could be disconnected (which could be life-threatening in some cases) is one thing that we can all do without right now.

Kudos to the ICC for their efforts in keeping us connected, even if it is for just one more month.
