Dixon Correctional Center Warden Retires Amid Investigation
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois Department of Corrections officials say there's no need to review rules about prison administrators' contact with ex-convicts after a sex offender was found living with a prison warden.
Twenty-nine-year Corrections veteran Nedra Chandler resigned Tuesday from her Dixon Correctional Center post. IDOC began an investigation Sept. 19 when Sterling police arrested a registered sex offender who was living at Chandler's Sterling home.
Tom Shaer is Corrections spokesman. He says the investigation includes Chandler's compliance with regulations governing prison administrators' connections to prisoners or ex-cons.
He says existing rules have in most instances "proven extremely effective and easy to follow."
Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Swon was charged with child-pornography related offenses.
Officials would not say how the two know each other.
The 53-year-old Chandler had a salary of $97,332.
