The man who recorded the final out for the 2016 Championship Cubs team has been traded to the Royals.

From the sounds of things Mike Montgomery was going to be traded this year. It wasn't that he was unhappy with being in Chicago. Quite the opposite actually.

But also understands the business angle of baseball.

The move coincides with starting catcher, Willson Contreras' move to the 10-day IL.

The prevailing theory is that the Cubs have gotten many calls about backup catcher Victor Caratini and will probably move him soon, hopefully for a leadoff man or a strong lefty reliever.

Theo obviously gets how important Montgomery was to the organization.

Thanks Monty. You'll never have to buy a beer in Chicago again.
