Catch Savage Gardens Is At Nicholas Conservatory

NOTE: This is not the Australian band but an awesome exhibit with carnivorous plants.

We had Laura Gibbs Green on this morning to let us know what to do over the weekend and she was absolutely jazzed about the new exhibit at Nicholas Conservatory. This exhibit was made for kids young and old. I remember being absolutely fascinated by venus flytraps, pitcher plants, and the rest of the insect-eating plant world. It was probably the first time I realized that plants were actually living things and not just pretty flowers and trees.

You can prep your kids for the trip by showing them this video:

I don't know if all 10 of these plants will be at the exhibit, but it would be a fun scavenger hunt with the kids when you go.

Laura also wanted to point out that Keye-​Mallquist Park on 11th St. in Rockford is open and ready for you to enjoy. The city has put in over $600,000 into rehabbing this park from top to bottom so whatever you remember from Keye-Mallqust, it's probably changed.

Get out and enjoy the weekend and one of these two spots. Keye-Mallquist is obviously free. You will need to purchase tickets and reserve a time to go check out Savage Gardens. You can do that right here. Admission is $7 for resident adults, $5 for resident youth ($9/$7 for non-residents.)

The Savage Gardens exhibit is only at Nicholas Conservatory until November so don't miss out on this nationally traveling exhibit.
