OREGON, Ill. (AP) — The nephew of a northern Illinois man who was shot to death in 1948 says he hopes the exhumation of his uncle's body will yield clues to a double homicide that's never been solved.

SaukValley.com reports that 62-year-old Steve Skridla of Rockford announced Wednesday that a Winnebago County judge has signed an order allowing the exhumation of Stanley Skridla's body.

The body of the 28-year-old Stanley Skridla and 17-year-old Mary Jane Reed were discovered near the community of Oregon. Both had been shot.

No arrests have ever been made, but the case has popped up in the news in recent years. A 2005 investigation by the Ogle County Sheriff's Department into the crimes pointed to a possible culprit. Reed's body was exhumed and DNA samples were taken during that investigation.
