Food Network Says This Joint Has The Best Pizza In Illinois
My wife knows that if I had it my way, there's every chance that pizza would be on the menu at home at least 3 times a week (back in the bachelor days, it was closer to 5 or 6).
She married a pizza lover who could easily have pizza every single day (not the same kind every time, though), so there are many times that she's had to be the adult in the relationship and insist that we actually eat like...well...adults, and have other things.
So, for anyone reading this who doesn't have an adult to reign them in when it comes to food and can eat it to their heart's content, let's take a look at where the experts at the Food Network say has the very best pizza in Illinois. While we're at it, we'll see what they think the top pizza joints are in our neighboring Midwestern states, too.
I Have To Bring Up A Disturbing Fact About Illinoisans And The Way We Eat Pizza
According to a piece at Food & Wine, 53% of Illinois residents reported using a fork and knife to eat their pizza, indicating a preference for a more formal dining experience.
Seriously? More than half of us? Not buying it. The piece also goes on to say that Illinois's favorite type of pizza is "meat-lovers." Again, based on personal experience, I'm not sure I believe that, either.
How much do we love pizza compared to other states? We come in 17th in the nation for pizza consumption, according to WorldPopulationReview.com. Surprisingly enough, the top 5 states for pizza-eating are:
- Wyoming
- Nebraska
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
- Montana
With Some Of These "Best Of" Lists, You'll See Some Of The Same Names Popping Up Again And Again
That's not the case with the best pizza in Illinois pick by the Food Network. I've seen lots of different food sites make their picks for Illinois' best pizza, but this is the first time I've seen this name on one:
Here's what Food Network had to say about them:
The family behind Pie-Eyed Pizzeria has combined their love of guitar riffs and great slices at this Chicago River West spot. In addition to the band flyers that adorn the space, their musical inspirations are apparent in the selection of thin-crust and deep-dish pizza that pays homage to heavy metal and rock bands. Their Black Sabbath Pizza and Red Hot Chili Pie have both been featured on local news segments. And one of their best-sellers was dedicated to Gwar when the band headlined Riot Fest. This amped-up take on a typical supreme pizza features hot soppressata, applewood-smoked bacon, Italian sausage, pepperoni, red bell peppers and extra sauce. With slices and pies available until 5 a.m. on weekends, it’s the perfect post-concert stop.
