Ailing Former Chicago Bear Gets Hall Of Fame Push From Fans In IL
Former Chicago Bear Great, Steve McMichael, is suffering from ALS and fans are pushing hard to get him inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.
What It's Like To Be A Diehard Chicago Bears Fan
Honestly, I really think I was born wearing a Chicago Bears jersey. I've been a fan for my whole life for what I can remember. Good, bad, and everything in between, I'll always support my favorite team.
I started watching games with my dad when I was a baby. I went to my first game in person back in 1980. My family got season tickets in 1982 and we've had them ever since. I even attended both of their Super Bowl appearances.
My Favorite Era Chicago Bears Team
When it comes to the fan-favorite era of Chicago Bears teams, of course, the "85 Bears" are the greatest of all time. Not just with this team but with the whole NFL. That year they won the championship. Plus, there were so many incredible players on the roster.
One Of The Most Popular Chicago Bears Of All Time
When you break it down to players, one of my favorites of all time and with many Bears, fans has to be Steve McMichael. Not only was he a great player but also had an amazing personality. He was definitely a hard-nosed Chicago-type football player.
Hall Of Fame Players From "85 Bears"
Unfortunately, that team only won one Super Bowl when they should have done it multiple times. For that reason at this point, the Bears only have five from that group in the Pro Football Hall of Hall. They are Walter Payton, Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, Jimbo Covert, and Mike Singletary. There are plenty more that desire it.
One of those former players that should be inducted is Steve McMichael. He holds many team and NFL records to support the fact he belongs in the hall. Now, the fans are fighting for his induction.
Last year, McMichael revealed that he was suffering from ALS. Unfortunately, his health is deteriorating fast. The fans and his former teammates would like him to be able to enjoy the honor while he still can. They have started a campaign to get Steve into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
As ALS takes its toll on ’85 Bears legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael — his friends, family, fans, and teammates are launching a letter-writing campaign to get the dominant defensive tackle into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In addition to winning the Super Bowl, McMichael recorded 95 sacks and 17 fumble recoveries.
Fans interested in writing a letter on behalf of Team Mongo to support his Hall of Fame bid can send them to the following address: Pro Football Hall of Fame, 2121 George Halas Dr. NW, Canton, Ohio 44708. On the envelope SELECTION COMMITTEE should be written.
