•  Republican Tom Cross has conceded the Illinois treasurer's race to Democrat Mike Frerichs. Cross released a statement today saying he has called and congratulated the state senator from Champaign. The hard-fought race had as few as 400 votes separating the candidates early this week. Updated totals put Ferichs up 9,000 votes in the race.
  • A Beloit woman was attacked yesterday afternoon. The Rock county Sheriff says the 19-year-old woman was approached by a male suspect in the 3800 block of W. Eau Claire Road. The suspect allegedly opened the driver door of the victim’s car and hit the woman with a metal object. The suspect is described as an unshaven white male between 30 and 35 years old and anyone with information is encouraged to call police.
  • Governor Quinn doesn't want Illinois residents to pay for his portrait. Officials say the governor will use private funds to pay for his portrait as he leaves office. Governors usually ask the General Assembly for the $20,000 cost. Portraits hang on the second floor of the Capitol Building.
  • The city of Rockford wants to borrow $12.3 million to help develop an indoor sports complex. The city's finance and personnel committee approved a plan this week to raise the money by issuing bonds. The City Council votes on the measure next week.
  • A federal judge has provided details about the duties of a monitor reviewing hiring at Governor Pat Quinn's Department of Transportation and set a deadline for a preliminary report. Anti-patronage attorney Michael Shakman has alleged improper patronage hiring at IDOT. Quinn's administration eliminated some of the jobs in question but vowed to cooperate.
  • Illinois lawmakers are expected in Springfield for one of two remaining legislative sessions under outgoing Governor Pat Quinn's tenure. The session starts Wednesday. One lawmaker says he'll try for an override of the governor's veto of ridesharing legislation. Quinn and Governor-elect Bruce Rauner both plan to be in Springfield during the week.
