• A Stateline area woman is dead after being shot early this morning. The shooting occurred around 3am in the 1600 block of Mole Street in Janesville. Investigators have identified the victim as 31 year-old Holly Rowan. Officials tell our partners at Eyewitness News they were called to the scene for a report of a domestic issue, but would not elaborate on what occurred that lead to the shooting.
  • A Beloit Man has reached a plea deal with prosecutors in a deadly accident. Johnquayl Bell has pled guilty in a deadly hit and run accident that took place in May of 2013. He is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison
  • A Rockford business owner has pled guilty to drug charges and will spend the next ten years behind bars. This is after police found cocaine at Kevin Vongsavath's business on Forest Hills Road back in December of 2012. Shortly after, a search of his house yielded a discovery of cannabis which was seized at the scene.
  • A seven-year-old Amboy girl died after the ATV she was riding on collided with a deer. Police say Makenzie Rutherford died Tuesday morning after the crash left her in critical condition Sunday night. It happened near the intersection of Sublette and LaMoille roads. Officials state say 34-year-old Brian Dees drove the ATV into a deer, sending it rolling into a ditch. Dees, Rutherford, and Rutherford's mother were all ejected.
  • Governor Pat Quinn has announced a deployment of State Police to Chicago to assist the Chicago Police Department with patrolling four city neighborhoods. 40 State Police Troopers will travel to Chicago on a request from Mayor Rahm Emanuel. At the Governor’s direction, the State Police will deploy troopers to areas coordinated with the Police Department to set up 20-to 25 surge teams to patrol troubled neighborhoods.
  • Shares of Illinois-based Walgreen tumbled sharply today after the company announced it will no longer try to move its corporate headquarters overseas in a bid to cut its federal taxes. Governor Pat Quinn says Walgreen has made the right decision and it shows respect for its Illinois workers and customers. Illinois Senator Dick Durbin believes their loyal customer base will grow because of this decision.
  • Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation today designed to protect Illinois workers. The bill limits payroll card fees and gives employees more flexibility. This is coming after an increasing number of Illinois workers have received their compensation through a payroll card.
  • The University of Illinois plans extra health screening for students arriving on campus from West Africa because of the Ebola outbreak. Officials say only a handful of the 3,500 new international students expected at U of I in the fall are from the area affected by the outbreak. The university is suspending programs for students in Sierra Leone.
  • State records show Illinois taxpayers will be billed about $18 million to turn existing prison space into facilities for mentally ill prisoners. Most of that cost is for a Department of Corrections plan to convert a closed juvenile prison in Joliet.
