• Illinois is among the cheapest places in the nation to own a car, according to Bankrate.  Drivers on average spend under $2,000 per year on gasoline.  The Midwest in general scored well on the list. The most expensive place to own a car is Wyoming.  Drivers there spend about $2,700/yr.
  • Another victim comes forward in the sexual abuse case of a Rockford doctor.  A new lawsuit alleges Dr. Charles DeHaan assaulted and battered Susan Beesley in 2014. Beesely is also sueing the Housecall Physician’s Group of Rockford. Dr. DeHaan’s medical license has been temporarily suspended.
  •  A Stockton man is dead after falling off a communications tower. It happened Sunday at 1300 block of E. Morseville Road.  The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office says 49 year-old Thomas Lucas was painting the tower.  At some point, witnesses report he had fallen off the tower about 80-90 feet.
  •  A Dakota man has been sentenced in Rockford Federal Court for keeping charitable donations for himself. Clifford Edwards Jr received a sentence of five years in federal prison. He is accused of stealing 3,600 victims of $120,000 dollars.  Edward’s Jr. is also ordered to pay over $122,000 in restitution.
  •  A Stateline area bar will now have indoor entertainment. Whiskey's Roadhouse was granted an amendment to its liquor license in a session Monday night. The owner of Whiskey's Roadhouse originally asked the City of Rockford for an amendment to their current liquor license that would allow outdoor music and alcohol services on the premises. Our partners at Eyewitness news have reported on excessive noise and problems for other businesses and residents.
  • It could be at least a couple more months before 2013 state education reports are finalized. Illinoisofficials say they've had trouble collecting school district teacher and administrator salary details for the reports, which are nearly a year overdue.
  • The Dixon City Council is expected to decide next week if they will hire a consultant to review financial controls. Mayor Jim Burke says Monday's vote will be on contracting with a Naperville-based consulting firm. The vote comes after the city's former comptroller was convicted of stealing nearly $54 million from the city over two decades.
