• A man remains in custody after allegedly assaulting a security guard at a Rockford Denny’s.  Police were called to the scene at the E. State Street location at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.  The victim told police he was pushed to the ground during an altercation and that the suspect stole his gun out of his holster. Officers were able to locate the 33-year old suspect, Joseph Colvin, who had fled the scene. Colvin was arrested for robbery, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm.
  •  Three teens are under arrest after an anonymous tip helped Loves Park Police make a surprise drug bust. The caller reported suspicious behavior behind the Meadowmart Shopping Center on North Second Street. When officers arrived, they discovered the teens parked behind the shopping center, with marijuana in the car.  It was determined that the teens had acquired the drugs by climbing over a fence and into the backyard of a residence in the 500 block of Theodore Street, where the marijuana was growing wild. Police are also seeking charges against the homeowner who was allegedly growing the drugs.
  • A Wisconsin woman has been arrested for her 6th drunk driving offense Sunday, after causing a roll-over accident near Janesville. 45-year old Joyce Guilfoil, from Madison, was driving westbound on Route 174 when she veered off of the road and crashed into another vehicle. Officials say Guilfoil was driving alone with her dog at the time of the crash. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the dog appears to have a broken leg. The driver she hit was not injured.
  • The Superintendent of Freeport Schools has resigned. Dr. Roberta Selleck submitted a letter of resignation to the school board on Saturday.  School Board President Janice Crutchfield says the resignation hasn't been accepted yet.  However, the issue will be addressed during Tuesday night's board meeting. An investigation was launched against Selleck.  However, citing personnel reasons, the board has not released very many details about it. In the meantime, Peter Flynn will remain as Interim Superintendent.
  •  Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said she will fight for new legislation that would let nursing home residents and their families have video or audio recording devices in their rooms to monitor patient treatment. The idea for the proposal comes after Madigan's office fielded complaints from nursing home residents and families concerned about safety and security.
  • Wisconsin tourism officials have launched their 2014 fall color report. The Department of Tourism added the report to its website last week. It is updated at least once a week and offers an interactive map with links to events, lodging and dining.
  • Illinois has been ranked near the top when it comes to residents moving to other states for several years, but Senate President John Cullerton believes older people leaving for warmer climates skews those numbers—which are then used by Republicans to bash the state.The most recent U.S. Census data said that almost 40,000 more people left Illinois for other states than moved here from other stares between July 2012 and July 2013.
  •  Entrepreneurs wanting to cultivate or dispense medical marijuana under a new Illinois law are getting their chance to be considered. The state will begin accepting applications today from aspiring cultivation centers and dispensaries vying for one of a limited number of permits. A state law enacted last year authorized a four-year pilot project that will expire in 2017.
