• A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a truck on highway 20  Stephenson County. State police say both vehicles were heading westbound on the U.S. 20 Bypass in Freeport, when the motorcyclist slammed into the back of the truck hauling wool. There is no word yet on what caused the motorcyclist to hit the truck.
  • The Rockford Police Department and the Rock Valley College Police Department are teaming together to invite citizens to a city wide free event next week for the National Night Out against Crime. They are encouraging people to come out, get to know the neighborhoods and take a strong stance against crime. The two departments will provide entertainment and refreshments. The event takes place on Tuesday at 5pm at the Rock Valley College.
  • A man on parole has been taken into custody for another crime in Rockford. James Moore is charged with two counts of residential burglary and false reporting of a stolen vehicle.  Officials state that Moore is behind several crimes in the Brown Hills, South Highland, and Calvin Park Hills neighborhoods.  Moore was arrested in the area of North Main and Riverside Wednesday.
  • The Illinois Lottery is finding itself under scrutiny after a state audit found numerous errors, inaccuracies and incomplete data. An audit found the lottery either overstated or understated amounts in its financial reports. The Illinois Lottery defended itself after the audit showed errors amounting to $17.5 million. The lottery said part of the reason for the problem may have been because of staffing shortages.
  • Illinois’s second largest city is preparing for the medical marijuana industry with new zoning rules. Aldermen in Aurora unanimously approved the rules this week. They require marijuana growers and retailers to submit their plans for operations, security and disposal to the city after being issued a state license.
  • New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will be in Chicago to support Bruce Rauner's campaign for Illinois governor. Christie and Rauner are scheduled to visit a Chicago-area business Friday afternoon, and Christie will headline an evening fundraiser for Rauner at a Chicago hotel. Christie is chairman of the Republican Governors Association.
  • Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says he's "deeply concerned" about the welfare of unaccompanied children who've crossed the border into the United States. The Chicago Democrat's statement follows federal data released Thursday showing Illinois this year has received 305 unaccompanied children stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border. Children are placed in government shelters and then released to sponsors while they go through deportation proceedings.
  • The city of Madison has proposed two sites to federal officials looking for places to house unaccompanied children crossing into the United States on the Mexican border. Immigration officials have asked a number of communities nationwide to seek places to shelter the children until they can be placed with relatives or friends or returned to their home countries. Madison has suggested using a former grocery store now owed by the city or a soon-to-be-closed department store as temporary shelters.
  • Governor Pat Quinn has welcomed a new class of Illinois State Police Troopers. Quinn and the ISP director spoke to the graduating class of 37 new officers during a graduation ceremony at the state police academy in Springfield. The new troopers will begin work on Monday at their respective districts.
