Illinois Theater Chain Will Offer 1/2 Price Summer Movie Tickets
In the interests of full disclosure, I have to admit that I really can't remember what the last movie I saw in an actual movie theater was. Seriously, I don't have a clue what we went to see, because it's been that long.
In doing a little informal and completely unscientific poll on this topic around our building, I quickly discovered that I'm not alone in this scenario, because multiple coworkers said pretty much the same thing. Some examples:
- I don't remember. It was before the pandemic
- I only watch movies at home so I can use subtitles and my own bathroom
- I only go when it's something that my kids want to see, which isn't very often
- I'd go more often, but it's so expensive that we only go maybe once a year
- Everything is too expensive and way too loud, and most movies suck anyway
Those answers and answers like that are probably why an Illinois movie theater chain has an interesting summer movie offer that they're starting in July.
How Does A 50 Percent Discount On An Adult Evening Movie Ticket Sound?
Before you answer, I should point out that there are a couple of "catches" to this offer, but I don't think most people will mind them.
Here's the deal.
Beginning on July 9th, AMC Theaters will offer a 50 percent discount off the regular adult-evening ticket price every Wednesday. The catches, if you can call them that, is that the offer is only good on Wednesdays, and you need to sign up to be a member of the AMC Stubs program--which is free. To join AMC Stubs, visit www.amctheatres.com/amcstubs.
Increased prices for special experiences such as Dolby Cinema at AMC, IMAX at AMC, PRIME at AMC, and RealD 3D, as well as fees on online tickets will still apply, but base ticket prices will receive a 50% discount.
Why Is AMC Running This Special Over The Summer?
According to a report at ABCNews.com, the timing seems right to offer this type of discount ticketing:
At AMC, we've gone to great lengths to create the preeminent moviegoing environment at our AMC theatres including our offering more comfortable seating, more premium formats, and better food and beverage offerings. Now, we also are pleased to make moviegoing more affordable, with our new '50% Off Wednesdays' effort," AMC Chair and CEO Adam Aron said in a statement.
"Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery," Aron continued. "But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.
