Our two year-old Weimaraner, Lucy, is a bit on the rambunctious side. She's hyper, somewhat anxious, and extremely stubborn. So, when we're not at home, Lucy goes into her crate. A friend, who at one time owned an exceedingly calm and mellow basset hound, just didn't understand why we would crate our dog. "C'mon, what's the big deal?" he asked, "What's she gonna do? You should let her be free."

I think that what happens to the woman's apartment in the video below explains quite clearly why we go with the crate. The only difference is that her apartment looks a lot better than our house would, given our dog's disposition.

Even worse than what happened to the dog owner's apartment are the reactions of the folks in the comment section. Not much pity, and plenty of advice/scolding.
