Sure, it's the holiday season, but that doesn't mean you have to confine yourself to eating only turkey or some sort of beef roast up until New Year's Day. Even if you did, you could still take that turkey and/or beef and turn it into a great sandwich.

Sandwiches are what we're talking about today, with the best reviewed sandwich joints in Illinois and Wisconsin (I've also got the best in Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa) by the legions of citizen food-critics on Yelp.

I love sandwiches. All sorts, all types, nearly any ingredients. If I were forced to pick one food item to have at every meal for the rest of my days, I'm going to go with sandwiches without much debate.

My mom hated sandwiches. She said sandwiches were for people who don't know how to cook, or have given up on cooking anything decent. Having sandwiches at dinner meant that someone had failed in the kitchen, and this was what they were forced to eat.

She was so, so wrong.

Enough Of Re-Living Childhood Trauma, Let's Talk Sandwiches--In Particular, Where Can You Get The Best Sandwich In Illinois (And the rest of the Midwest)?

For that we turn to review-site Yelp, and their recently-released list of The Best Sandwiches In Every State. They basically looked through reviews of places that mentioned sandwiches, then ranked those spots on volume of ratings and reviews based on the keyword of sandwich.

I don't have the time or interest to run down all 51 spots that made the list (they included Washington DC), but before we get to their pick for Illinois' best sandwich, let's see where we should go if we visit one of our neighboring Midwestern states:

WisconsinCasetta Kitchen and Counter in Madison. Popular sandwiches include the Italian, the Paradigm, the Sullivan, and the Vegetalian.

IowaCharlotte's Kitchen in Johnston. Popular sandwiches: Crab Rangoon Sandwich, Nashville Hot Sandwich, Chicken Sandwiches.

Where Do You Go In Illinois For The Best Sandwich? Well, If You're A Sandwich Lover, You Already Have A Place In Mind That's Probably Not Too Far Away

I would truly love to know your favorite sandwich spot, but since we're not quite that interactive here yet, let's just go with what the Yelp piece says is Illinois' best:

Firenze Italian Street Food in Chicago. The popular sandwiches there look spectacular and have names like the Prosciutto Mozzarella, the Spicy Soppressata Sandwich, the Turkey Tuscan, and the Chicken Pesto.

Take a look. This made me hungry:
