If you or someone you know has too much to drink on New Year's Eve, the Sheriff's Department will drive you home for free.

My husband is a bartender and often leaves work in the very early morning hours, when most drivers on the road are intoxicated.

I worry for him, as I want him to return home from work safely. You should never drink and drive, as you are putting yourself and others in danger.

New Year's Eve is a popular day for many to go out, let loose and celebrate the New Year. While that is perfectly fine, if you drink... don't drive.

According to WTVO, Sheriff Gary Caruana is again offering free rides to those who plan on drinking on New Year's Eve.

Starting at 11 p.m. on Thursday and ending on the first of the New Year, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department will provide these rides to and from any location in Winnebago County to any home in Winnebago County.

For a ride, you can call 815-639-4674.

You can always call an Uber driver to bring you home, a taxi cab or a friend or family member who has not been drinking. The Sheriff's Department urges you to try to make alternative arrangements before calling them.
