ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Winnebago County authorities are trying to track down relatives of a man killed in a November fire.

The Rockford Register Star reports coroner's officials said Thursday they believe 52-year-old Javier Garduno is one of two men killed in a fire the men had set to keep warm inside an abandoned railroad shed. They say the homeless man was badly burned but cardiac disease and stents found in his heart during an autopsy match Garduno's medical records.

Chief Deputy Coroner William Hintz says there were no dental X-rays to confirm his identity and investigators haven't been able to locate family members.

Authorities believe they have identified the other victim. He says a family member from California is going to Rockford to provide a DNA sample. The testing process will take a year to complete.
