ROCK FALLS, Ill. (AP) — The Whiteside County Sheriff's Department has a new crime fighter: a German shepherd named Nicom.

Deputy Rollie Elder will work with the one-and-a-half-year-old dog. He's been a K-9 handler with the sheriff's department since 2012. He and Nicom have gone through six weeks of training together in Pennsylvania. Nicom was brought to the U.S. from Holland and Elder gives him commands in Dutch.

The Telegraph in Dixon reports that the Dixon Police Department also is getting a new police dog from Pennsylvania's Shallow Creek Kennels. The department's previous dog Bobby retired in May with health issues after being in service since 2005.
