Home sales are at their highest in 10 years, but what does a home in Rockford get you compared to one in Chicago?

As it turns out, "yes" you still get a ton more home in Rockford than you do in Chicago.

I consulted Zillow to find two homes, one in Rockford and the other in Chicago using a budget of $100,000.

Here's the Rockford home, located at 9191 Scottswood Road. It's a smaller two bedroom, two bath home that comes in at just a hair over 1,700 square feet.

The listing agents Andy and Shannon Oleferchik say about the property, "Don't let the outside fool you (it's much larger then it looks)! HUGE main floor bathroom with a whirlpool tub, separate shower, separate toilet area, it even has an additional electric heating system under the counter, plus a built-in ironing board! The master bedroom is on the main floor with a walk-in closet! Hardwood floors throughout the main level."

Sounds quaint, cute and attainable for the asking price. Here's what $100,000 gets you in Chicago. Actually $109,000. Brace yourself.

Located at 4554 South LaCrosse Avenue, the listing agent, Herbert Weglarz from Applebrook Realty says "Super attractive raised ranch has a great yard and it is located on a nice block. This modern home features three bedrooms, a garage, and a finished basement."

The home is currently in foreclosure so you might be able to talk them under $100K for the home, but that looks like it's going to need $500K in work just to live in or sell the property.
