Summer is quickly approaching and you might need something to do with the kids. The Rockford Park District has you covered.

Registration is underway for kids of all ages.  As a personal attendee of Rockford summer camps as a kid I can personally vouch for how awesome they are.

  • Nature Quest day camp for kids age 5-10 is at Aldeen Park and is a great introductory camp experience.
  • Camp Lone Oak for kids ages 9-14 is an overnight Monday-Thursday camp located along the Kishwaukee River at Atwood Park
  • Summer Blast Day Camp is offered for both full and half days at RESA Middle School for kids 5-10 for fun indoor activities
  • Tween Scene is another indoor day camp at RESA Middle School for older kids aged 11-14.
  • Horse riding enthusiasts have three choices of summer camps. Saddle Up Camp is for beginners aged 5-7, Little Buckarro Pony Camp is for beginners 8-16, and Blazing Saddles Advanced Camp is offered for any advanced rider.
  • Learn To Play Sports Camp at the Jr Ice Hogs Training facility offers introductory instruction for hockey, soccer, golf, basketball and baseball
  • Glide and Slide Camp a unique program combining ice skating and swimming for ages 5 and up
  • Youth and Tween Summer Camps at Washington Park Community Center for ages 11-15 are 8 week camps with indoor/outdoor activities as well as field trips
  • Therapeutic Recreation Camps run year round and are geared towards children with disabilities.
  • Museum Partner Camps and Programs - The RPD has partnered with Burpee, The Discovery Center, Midway Village, and Rockford Dance Company to offer unique summer programs.

The RPD wants to make sure these camps are available to all and for some camps installment payments may be offered and the Help Me Play fee assistance program may be available for qualifying resident families.

Any of these programs can make for one satisfying summer. Head over to www.rockfordparkdistrict.org (click My RPD) for more info or call 815-987-8800. Have an excellent summer.
