I’ve mentioned many times on the show how much I love “Shark Tank”. It is the only TV show that I do not miss. And if I’m too busy to watch it live (quite often) I make sure to catch it a week or two later on the DVR.

One of the reasons I enjoy it so much is it feels like a mini-business education in each episode. I majored in broadcast communication and political science in college, so my knowledge about how to plan, start, and grow a successful business is somewhat limited. I do feel that I learn something each and every week.

Now, if you are a real entrepreneur with an idea for a profitable small business or if you have an existing small business that needs a little help the Rockford Community Partners and Rock Valley College’s Small Business Development Center have an opportunity for you.

Beginning February 19, they'll be hosting a seven-week course to help create a business plan for your concept. Participants also will receive up to five hours of individual assistance following the class to launch your business or strengthen your existing business.

The class meets one night a week for seven weeks from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the downtown branch of the Rockford Public Library. There is no cost for low and moderate income households thanks to funding from the city of Rockford. Others will be asked for a $150 tuition fee.

You can sign up here or call (815) 921-2081 for more information.
